White Rocks is the event-space project Dmitry Motorov describes in this interview with Katerina. Near the white limestone coast outside Limassol, he is developing a place for celebrations, music and other gatherings. The conversation covers both the attraction of the location and the less visible work behind an event.
Published on 25 October 2024, the interview captures a business still taking its first steps. Facilities, plans and collaboration terms mentioned here describe that period; they are not a current booking offer.
A business that began with attachment to a place
Dmitry’s family had enjoyed the White Rocks coast before he started the project. He remembers family photographs and his daughter’s birthday at the nearby restaurant. Later he met a future business partner who owned land above the coast, and their conversations led to the idea of an event venue.
He distinguishes the venue from the fish restaurant where the interview takes place. The event site is farther uphill. He describes sea views, relative privacy and a journey of about 15 minutes from the city as advantages. He counts around 200 palms, about 50 of them illuminated, changing the atmosphere after sunset.
Birthdays, music and small group events
At the time of filming, Dmitry says smaller birthdays for roughly 30–50 guests were a popular format. He also mentions yoga and sound-healing gatherings, a compact indoor space and live-music experiments. Those references describe events hosted, not claims about therapeutic results.
Asked about international weddings and events, he says the project does not yet have that experience.
What had been built and what was still planned
The site began with an old, damaged tavern and required extensive groundwork and improvements to basic facilities. Dmitry describes restoring the building, toilets and kitchen areas while following a wider architectural plan step by step.
A restaurant, concert area, beach club and children’s zone belong to his longer-term vision. He also discusses applications and permissions associated with operating and serving alcohol. These are his account of work in progress, not confirmation of present facilities or a guide to licensing law.
Winter comfort and the practical side of a venue
He describes an indoor space of 88 m², heated with air conditioners, with additional gas heaters available. Outdoor heating has also been used for family celebrations. Even in Cyprus, he stresses the need to think about wind, rain and cold when choosing an event setting.
Some sound equipment belongs to the venue; other equipment is brought in when an event requires it. Catering, decoration and musicians depend on the format. A corporate event and a birthday do not need exactly the same team or arrangement.
Partnerships rather than one fixed format
Dmitry describes being open to new ideas and working out terms with organisers. In examples from that period, he was willing to provide space to test a musical format, create content or develop a joint event. This should not be read as a standing promise of free venue hire.
He also wants to build an audience before completing every improvement. Open events were announced mainly on Instagram, with Telegram also discussed. There was no fixed programme in the interview; check White Rocks’ Instagram for current information.
Why preparation matters
Dmitry estimates that preparation accounts for 70% of an event’s success: the concept, guests, timing and practical organisation. This is his working rule of thumb, not a measured statistic. He gives examples of how queues, understaffed bars, toilets, unsuitable shelter or delayed performances can spoil an otherwise promising event.
His motivation is also creative. After years of less creative work, he enjoys improving the space and seeing people leave with good memories. The business story is therefore about developing a venue and a network of collaborators, as well as finding an activity he enjoys.
