Before taking possession of a property, agree with the landlord which utility accounts you will hold, record the meter readings and ask each provider for its current transfer checklist. Keep the handover record and application confirmations.
How do I transfer the water account?
Use the provider responsible for your address. The following is a Limassol example, from EOA Lemesos’s water-supply FAQ, checked on 3 October 2026:
- Complete the water-meter transfer application.
- A tenant attaches the rental agreement; an owner attaches a title deed or sale agreement.
- Attach a photo of the water meter in all cases. Additional documents apply to companies, representatives or applicants who are neither owner nor tenant.
- Pay the published transfer deposit: €250 for a tenant or €50 for an owner. Any outstanding balance must also be settled.
Confirm the application channel and current requirements with your provider. These deposit amounts and documents are not a universal checklist for every district.
What happens to the water deposit when I leave?
EOA Lemesos’s FAQ says a registered consumer can request disconnection. A final bill is based on the meter reading, and the deposit is used to settle it. If the bill is lower than the deposit, the remainder is refunded within two weeks; if the bill exceeds the deposit, the difference must be paid before disconnection.
Arrange the closing account and meter reading with your provider rather than assuming the full deposit is returned automatically when you move out.
What if an application is delayed?
Keep the submission confirmation and contact the provider to ask whether documents or payment are missing. Ask for a case reference and the next step. Do not plan around an unconfirmed one- or two-day response time.
How do I arrange electricity?
Start with EAC’s supply information and ask it to confirm the current procedure for your situation: a change of tenant, reconnection or a new connection.
Before applying, confirm:
- Which identity and property documents to bring, and whether the previous account holder must sign anything.
- The applicable deposit and service charges, payment method and account-opening date.
- How the previous account will be closed and how to record the handover meter reading.
- The available billing and payment arrangements, including any direct-debit setup requirements.
For a budget, ask for recent bills for the property and compare the billing period, consumption and all charges. Check the current tariff before estimating costs. If considering solar equipment, request a property-specific assessment and written assumptions rather than relying on a fixed savings percentage.
What internet options are available?
Cyta, Epic, PrimeTel and Cablenet offer home internet.
Ask the provider to confirm coverage at your exact address, the full contract price, activation or installation charges, required documents and installation date. Check the price after any promotion and the cancellation conditions.
See the internet and mobile provider guide for dated plan examples. For bank or residence-permit address checks, ask the receiving institution exactly which documents it accepts; a bill accepted in one application does not establish a universal rule.
How should I arrange gas and refuse collection?
If the property uses gas, ask the landlord which equipment and supplier it uses. Confirm delivery arrangements, price and payment directly with the supplier.
For household refuse, ask your municipality or community for its collection schedule, charge and payment instructions. Keep this separate from the packaging-recycling instructions below.
Recycling
Green Dot Cyprus’s published instructions distinguish:
- PMD packaging: transparent recycling bags or blue bins.
- Paper: brown recycling bags or brown bins.
- Glass packaging: separate green, bell-shaped collection bins. Glass packaging is not collected from houses under this scheme.
Use the local collection instructions before putting materials out. Do not treat every green bin as general waste or every blue/yellow bin as interchangeable.
What should I keep after moving in?
Keep copies of account agreements, application confirmations, meter photographs, payment receipts and bills. For a residence application, use the checklist for your exact permit category and ask whether bills must cover a particular period.
Before moving out, ask each provider how to close or transfer the account, arrange the final reading and recover any remaining deposit. Keep the closing confirmation.
