Start by checking whether your current status allows the proposed work, then search for vacancies and compare the full offer. Keep your job-search plan separate from assumptions about permit approval, tax exemptions or a guaranteed hiring time.

Where should I look for jobs?

The Public Employment Service’s jobseekers platform is the government service. It lets you register as an applicant, search vacancies, submit job applications and manage your application. Its published process says officers will contact you by telephone to validate the application. The service also allows an application to attend a job interview.

Ergodotisi separately publishes job listings and company profiles, with English and Greek versions. Use its vacancy details and the employer’s own instructions. This guide does not rank it as the largest or describe it as the government employment service.

Build a shortlist of employers and check their own careers pages. For each vacancy, record the role, location, working pattern, salary information, required language, professional-registration requirements and whether the employer supports your immigration route. Search based on the actual vacancy rather than assuming that an entire industry hires in English or pays a fixed range.

What is a practical search strategy?

Combine advertised applications with direct outreach and professional introductions. Set a weekly target you can sustain: for example, shortlist ten employers, tailor a few applications and arrange relevant conversations. These are planning suggestions, not measured hiring success rates.

Ask a recruiter:

  • Who is the legal employer, and is this a direct or agency placement?
  • What are the role, location, hours and salary range?
  • What interviews or assessments are planned, and when should I expect an update?
  • What work-authorisation evidence is required, and who handles any permit application?
  • Are any relocation costs or repayment terms included?

A short outreach template:

Hi [Name], I’m a [role] with [experience], exploring opportunities in Cyprus. Your work on [specific area] interests me, and my experience in [skill] may fit the team. My current work-authorisation position is [accurate status]. Could we arrange a brief call about suitable roles?

Describe your actual permission or sponsorship need; do not assume that an informal “BCS” label guarantees a visa, employee tax relief or citizenship.

How should I prepare my CV and interview?

Keep the CV focused on the role. Use clear headings, recent relevant experience, measurable achievements, languages and availability. Explain work-authorisation needs accurately. Follow the employer’s requested file format and document instructions; a particular layout is not guaranteed to pass every applicant-tracking system.

Tailor the skills and examples to the vacancy. Prepare concrete examples using Situation, Task, Action and Result if that structure helps. Ask about responsibilities, management, workload, progression and the next step. Confirm any verbal offer in writing before making commitments.

Agree a follow-up date with the recruiter. If none is given, one polite follow-up after a reasonable interval is a practical option. Avoid treating suggested response times as legal deadlines or promised hiring schedules.

What salary benchmark can I use?

In its release dated 29 July 2026, CYSTAT reported provisional average gross monthly employee earnings of EUR 2,601 for the first quarter of 2026. The measure uses Social Insurance records and includes basic salary, allowances, overtime and irregular payments such as thirteenth salary and bonuses. Its coverage excludes household-employer activities and extraterritorial organisations and bodies, and specified records indicating no regular work. Official earnings release and methodology.

This is a national historical average, not a current offer or an occupation-specific rate. Compare recent relevant vacancies and ask employers for their ranges. For an offer, establish gross annual pay, the number of salary payments, bonus conditions, benefits and the cost of relocation. Use the salary-negotiation guide to compare packages.

Minimum wage

For jobs covered by the national minimum-wage orders, from 1 January 2026 full-time pay must be at least:

  • EUR 979 gross per month before completing six continuous months with the same employer.
  • EUR 1,088 gross per month after completing that period.

The orders exclude domestic workers, agricultural and animal-farming workers, seamen and workers covered by the separate hotel-industry order. Check the applicable sector and working arrangement instead of applying one minimum to every job. Department of Labour Relations minimum-wage FAQ.

What taxes and contributions affect an offer?

The ordinary 2026 personal income-tax bands apply to taxable income: 0% up to EUR 22,000, then marginal rates of 20% above EUR 22,000 to EUR 32,000, 25% above EUR 32,000 to EUR 42,000, 30% above EUR 42,000 to EUR 72,000, and 35% above EUR 72,000. These are not a guarantee that the first EUR 22,000 of every gross compensation package is the only relevant tax condition. Income Tax Law, First Schedule.

Employees’ Social Insurance rate is 8.8% of insurable earnings. In 2026, the employee ceiling is EUR 5,742 per month for monthly-paid employees or EUR 1,325 per week for weekly-paid employees. Applied contribution rates and 2026 ceiling notice.

The employee GESY contribution rate is 2.65%; its annual assessment limit is EUR 180,000 per natural person across the applicable contribution categories, separate from the Social Insurance ceiling. HIO financing rules.

Ask payroll for a calculation based on your actual income and any relief for which you qualify. Joining a particular employer does not establish personal tax-exemption eligibility.

What employment rights should I check?

Written employment information

For employment within the scope of the Transparent and Predictable Working Conditions Law, the employer must provide the prescribed basic information no later than seven calendar days after employment starts, and the additional information within one month, if not supplied earlier. Information may be provided on paper or electronically under the law’s access, storage, printing and transmission-evidence conditions. Sections 4, 11 and 12.

The basic information includes pay, the work description, commencement, any probation terms and the relevant working-pattern information. Additional information includes leave and termination procedure or notice information. This written-information duty should not be replaced by a blanket statement that every employment relationship must begin with a signed contract. Department of Labour Relations FAQ.

Before accepting, request clear terms for salary, hours, overtime arrangements, leave, probation, notice and any non-compete or repayment clauses. Check the applicable law, collective agreement and contract when assessing a specific dispute.

Working time and leave

Under the general working-time law, the ordinary maximum is 48 hours per week on average, including overtime, normally over a four-month reference period. The law has scope exclusions, derogations and an opt-out subject to employee consent, protection against adverse consequences for refusal, employer records and regulatory oversight. A contract’s forty-hour schedule is not the universal statutory maximum. Sections 3 and 7 of the working-time law.

The official annual-leave guidance provides four weeks’ paid leave after 48 weeks’ work within a year: 20 working days on a five-day working week or 24 on a six-day week. Payment is made by the employer or the Central Holiday Fund under the applicable arrangements. Paid annual leave service.

Check sick-pay arrangements separately from Social Insurance sickness benefit: the benefit’s waiting period does not itself establish whether an employer pays wages. The Social Insurance guide explains the distinction.

Probation and termination

For employment covered by the relevant provisions, the ordinary maximum probation period is six months. Fixed-term probation must be proportionate to the expected contract duration and nature of the work. Renewing a fixed-term contract for the same post and duties does not require a fresh probation period. Defined managerial officers of legal entities are excluded from the maximum-duration rules, and absence during probation can permit an extension no longer than that absence. Public-sector and other scope rules must also be checked. Applicable collective agreements may provide different terms under sections 15–20 while retaining overall worker protection. Sections 4, 15 and 21.

Ask for the termination procedure and notice terms in the written information. Seek case-specific advice about notice, final pay and any redundancy claim; this guide does not promise compensation after every dismissal or a universal notice period.

How do immigration routes affect employment?

The official EU, EEA and Swiss citizen guidance describes free access to employment and self-employment under the Union-citizen route, alongside residence-registration duties. MEU1 guidance.

For other applicants, check the actual route and permission for the proposed activity. The official family-reunification page distinguishes spouses of long-term residents or intra-corporate transferees, who have free labour-market access including self-employment, from qualifying spouses or civil partners of company-of-foreign-interests employees, whose free access is to paid employment and expressly excludes self-employment. This makes a blanket “every non-EU person needs an employer-sponsored permit” rule unreliable. Family-reunification labour-market conditions.

The official employer route is titled Companies of Foreign Interests; consult its Migration Department instructions for the applicable policy and application. Assess immigration status, personal tax relief and any future citizenship application separately, rather than treating a company label as an entitlement to all three.

If considering remote work for a foreign employer, check the appropriate immigration, tax and social-insurance arrangements before agreeing. The Digital Nomad scheme specifically allows qualifying remote work for an employer abroad or foreign-client self-employment; its family members have no employment or economic-activity right under that scheme. It is not a general permission to take a Cyprus job. Official Digital Nomad rules.

What should I do before accepting an offer?

Verify the employer and role, obtain the written offer, check your work-authorisation route and compare the complete pay package. Ask about anything unclear before resigning, relocating or paying costs. Keep the offer, terms, payslips and relevant correspondence. If employment ends, use the unemployment-benefits guide to check the actual insurance and application conditions.
