# How to format your article on expats.cy: every editor tool, with examples

This page shows every format the expats.cy article editor offers and when to use each one. 📌 Keep it open while you write your guide.

## Headings

Use **H2** for the main sections of a guide and **H3** for steps inside a section. The table of contents at the top of your article is built from them, so a reader can jump straight to the part they need.

### This is an H3 heading

Text under an H3 heading. Keep paragraphs short: two to four sentences.

## Text styles

Plain text, **bold for the one thing a reader must remember**, *italic for a term or a title*, underlined text, struck-out text, for example an old price and highlighted text for a deadline or a fee.

Emojis work anywhere in the text: ✅ done, ⚠️ warning, ❌ don't, 📅 date, 📍 place, 💶 money, 📞 phone, 🔗 link.

## Important box

⚠️ Use the quote button for the one thing a reader must not miss: a deadline, a fee, or a step that people often get wrong.

## Lists

Bullet list, for things in no particular order:

Passport

Rental contract

Recent bank statement

Numbered list, for steps in order:

Book the appointment online

Pay the fee (write the amount and link the official price list)

Bring the originals and a copy of each

Checklist, for things a reader ticks off:

Passport copied

Health insurance bought

Appointment booked

## Links

Links look like this: [expats.cy guides](https://expats.cy/en/). Link to the official page for every fee, deadline or form, so readers can check it themselves.

## Code block

Use it for a reference number, an address to copy, or an exact text to paste into a form:

Office name
Street, number, city
Form or reference number
Short inline code looks like `this`.

## Divider

A divider separates two parts of a guide:

---

Text after the divider.

## Images and YouTube

The editor also inserts images (upload a file) and YouTube videos (paste the video link). A photo of a form or an office entrance often helps more than a paragraph of text.

## Alignment

Centered text.

Right-aligned text.
